Welcome to AlterPride Project!

AlterPride.org is a grassroots initiative of LGBT activist Randall Ellison. The project is intended to promote education and awareness of sexual diversity while challenging outdated classical notions of sexuality (e.g. the Kinsey scale).

The American neologism "altersexual", rooted in Latin, literally translates as "other sexuality". It was coined on November 10, 2010 following the prevalence of news reports of "gay bullying", and in recognition of the need for a collective term to embody the substantial range of sexual orientations beyond only "gay vs. straight", a hegemonic construct still promulgated by popular media and special interest groups.

“People cannot be truly equal, if they consistently only single out even one minority group of the people.”—Randall Ellison

When stereotypical phrases like "gay marriage" and "gay rights" are purposefully exploited by journalists, activists, and politicians alike to draw attention to LGBT issues, it mitigates the importance of a combined political focus and marginalizes the true sum of our sexual orientations and gender identities.

The only way to overcome these social obstacles is to directly challenge the status quo, even if that entails subversive dialog — that literally means informing people that the term "gay" is nothing short of prejudicial and solely promotes a gay agenda. Why not suggest altersexual instead?

“Remember, equality is not just in the letter of the law, but in the unbiased nature of people's hearts.”—Randall Ellison

Project Scope.
